A public-private partnership led by the Commission on Children, the Liberty Bank Foundation, the Workforce Alliance, and the five Connecticut Workforce Investment Boards held a news conference at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford on January 31, 2014 to announce the launch of the WorkPath Fund, an initiative aimed at helping Connecticut parents succeed in a still-difficult job market.

The Fund grew out of a provision in Public Act 10-133, An Act Concerning Children in the Recession. This ground-breaking legislation stemmed from public hearings held across Connecticut by the legislature's Task Force on Children in the Recession.

At the time of the news conference, the Fund already had raised $105,500 from philanthropic sources. Working through the state’s CTWorks Career Centers, it will distribute the money in one-time grants of $250 to $1,000 to eligible parents.

Presenters at the news conference included Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Liberty Bank President and CEO Chandler J. Howard, Commission on Children Executive Director Elaine Zimmerman, Workforce Alliance President and CEO William Villano; and state Representative Diana S. Urban of North Stonington, who co-chairs the legislature's Children's Committee and co-chaired the Task Force on Children in the Recession.
