Improving children’s education, health, and safety through family engagement was the focus of a first-of-its-kind symposium held last week at the White House and hosted by the WK. Kellogg Foundation, with Commission Executive Director Elaine Zimmerman in attendance.

New Haven ceremony  

New law will expand education opportunities for adults and promote safer schools

Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman led a recent ceremony at the Connecticut Children's Museum in New Haven to celebrate the signing into law of Public Act No. 14-172, An Act Concerning Improvement Opportunities Through Education and Ensuring Safe School Climates.

New parent-leaders receive their diplomas

On June 18, approximately 300 parents from across Connecticut gathered at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford to be honored for completing their civic leadership training with either the Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) or Parents Supporting Educational Excellence (Parents SEE).

VIDEO: Bringing attendance home

The Commission worked with parent leaders across the state in providing feedback to the national organization Attendance Works on its development of a new video and discussion guide on how parents can help reduce school absenteeism. The feedback included hosting a focus group with the Charter Oak Academy Family Resource Center and Parent Leadership Alumni in West Hartford.
