RE: Abandoned Cats
You asked what organizations provide shelter and care for abandoned cats.
SUMMARY
Many private organizations in Connecticut care for cats and put them up for adoption. Unfortunately, according to animal activists, most shelters are full and rarely have space for new animals. The activists recommend calling all shelters regularly to see if they have openings. The table below lists most of the cat shelters in Connecticut. The activists suggest that it will be easier to find shelter space before April because this is when they fill up quickly with kittens.
People who want to help abandoned cats can consider providing care themselves. There are some options through which such people can get reductions in veterinarian costs for spaying, de-worming, and vaccinations. The Vernon A. Tait All-Animal Adoption, Preservation & Rescue Fund, Inc. offers low-cost veterinarian care and serves as a clearinghouse for information about Connecticut's animal shelters.
