Description: This map from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) shows that at least 17 states have enacted privacy laws. Connecticut enacted its Personal Data Privacy and Online Monitoring Act in the 2022 legislative session, effective July 1, 2023. California was among the first states to enact a comprehensive privacy law, effective January 1, 2020. Various other states have since enacted privacy and consumer privacy laws, such as Oregon and New Jersey in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
