The Committee on Aging reported through REP. SERRA of the 33rd Dist., Chairperson of the Committee on the part of the House, that the bill ought to pass.

AN ACT CONCERNING VISITS BY NONAMBULATORY NURSING HOME RESIDENTS TO THE HOMES OF THEIR FAMILIES.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2018) Any nursing home or nursing home facility, as defined in section 19a-490 of the general statutes, with available vehicles equipped to transport nonambulatory residents shall provide nonemergency transportation of nonambulatory residents to the homes of family members provided: (1) Such family members live within the same municipality as the nursing home, and (2) such transportation is approved by a physician. The charge for such transportation to the nonambulatory resident may not exceed the nursing home's cost of providing the transportation.

This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections:

SUMMARY

This bill requires a nursing home to transport non-ambulatory residents to their family members' homes if (1) a physician approves it, (2) the nursing home has available vehicles equipped to transport such residents, and (3) the family members live within the same municipality as the nursing home. Under the bill, the nursing home cannot charge the resident more than its cost for providing such transportation.
