Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2018) Notwithstanding section 16-34a of the general statutes, the Commissioner of Energy and Environmental Protection shall require each propane gas dealer and each gas company in the state to respond to and remediate any gas leak for which such dealer or company is responsible not later than forty-eight hours after such dealer or company receives notice of such leak. Nothing in this section shall be construed to affect any propane gas dealer or gas company's responsibility to respond to such a leak that constitutes an emergency.

This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections:

Statement of Purpose:

To establish parity between gas companies and home heating oil dealers for response and remediation times when there is a leak of their respective products.
