SPONSORS OF BILL:

The Housing Committee

REASONS FOR BILL:

As technology improves the need for satellite dishes becomes unnecessary and many are unused which results in overcrowding roofs of housing complexes. This bill would require a task force study to be created to examine methods to prevent overcrowding.

RESPONSE FROM ADMINISTRATION/AGENCY:

None Stated.

NATURE AND SOURCES OF SUPPORT:

Andre Baker, 124th Dist., State Representative; supports this bill while offering additional language. It is suggested that holding the installer of the satellite dish liable for damage as a result of installation, as well as requiring the satellite company or customer be held responsible for removing the dish once someone moves or terminates their lease would strengthen this bill.

Geraldo Reyes, 75th Dist., State Representative; supports this bill stating that the overcrowding of satellite dishes qualifies as “urban pollution” which compromises the allure and value of communities in Connecticut.

NATURE AND SOURCES OF OPPOSITION:

None Stated.
