AN ACT CONCERNING NOTIFICATION BY CONTRACTORS TO SUPERINTENDENTS OF SCHOOLS REGARDING INCIDENTS OF ARREST BY EMPLOYEES.

SUMMARY

This bill requires certain contractors that receive information about an employee's arrest to notify the superintendent of schools about the arrest within 24 hours of learning of it. This requirement applies to any contractor that (1) contracts with a local or regional board of education and (2) employs an arrested individual who has direct contact with a student in a school under that board's jurisdiction.

The bill requires the contractor's notification to the superintendent to be in writing and include the employee's identity, and, if known, (1) the offense or offenses for which the employee was arrested and (2) a brief description of the incident or incidents leading to the arrest.

EFFECTIVE DATE: October 1, 2018
