REASONS FOR BILL:

Under the Workers' Compensation system, rates for radiology services were cut several years ago. Fee schedules for certain radiology services now need to be increased. This bill would allow the chairman of the Workers' Compensation Commission to augment the rate by 15% to bring it more in line with group rates.

RESPONSE FROM ADMINISTRATION/AGENCY:

None Submitted.

NATURE AND SOURCES OF SUPPORT:

Over the past few years, Connecticut radiologists have received a reimbursement reduction of over 50% under the Workers' Compensation System. These rates are significantly lower than group health rates. Timely quality care for injured workers is of utmost importance. When diagnostic services are compromised, delays in medical treatment can result which forces an increase in indemnity and administrative costs. An adjustment to these fees to make them more competitive with group health rather is needed.
