SPONSORS OF BILL:

The Housing Committee,

Rep. Angel Arce, 4th Dist.

Rep. Christopher Davis, 57th Dist.,

REASONS FOR BILL:

Connecticut must find ways to aspire our young professional to establish roots and live within our urban communities. This bill creates a property tax relief program for professionals who graduate from a public or private college, healthcare training school, or technical high school.

RESPONSE FROM ADMINISTRATION/AGENCY:

Christopher Davis, 57th Dist., State Representative, House Republicans; supports the bill because it would create an incentive program encouraging young professionals to establish roots in Connecticut's urban areas. An increase in population will move urban centers forward and decrease costs for state residents, which will bring new businesses to Connecticut and keep current ones open.

Cheryl Sharp, Deputy Director, Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities; opposes the bill. There is concern that there should not be incentive for one class of people over another and this bill would be discriminatory to an older person wanting to live in an urban area.
