STATE MANDATE - Potential Cost

Explanation

There is expected to be minimal fiscal impact resulting from the bill, which requires municipalities to comply with Standard 1911 of the National Fire Protection Association and federal regulations regarding the maintenance and testing of fire apparatuses. There is a potential cost to the estimated 20% of municipalities who do not currently comply by this standard. This cost would result from having to upgrade, modify, or maintain these apparatuses, which typically cost between $800,000 and $1.2 million, in accordance with Standard 1911's guidelines in the instances it differs from municipalities' existing standards.

House “A” alters the original bill by requiring municipal fire departments to comply with specific federal standards in addition to NFPA codes.

The Out Years

The annualized ongoing fiscal impact identified above would continue into the future subject to inflation.
