AN ACT ADJUSTING THE STATE BUDGET FOR THE BIENNIUM ENDING JUNE 30, 2017.
LCO No.: 6412
OFA Fiscal Note
State Impact: See below
Municipal Impact: See below
The amendment results in a potential significant savings to municipalities as it would eliminate the minimum budget requirement (MBR) for education.
The amendment also reduces from eighteen to nine, the number of professional development hours local and regional boards of education must provide to certified staff. This will result in a savings to local and regional boards of education. The amount of the savings will be based on the size of the district and if substitute coverage was used during the training.
The amendment also repeals the uniform school calendar, which correspondingly could eliminate the potential savings districts may have incurred by using the uniform school calendar.
Finally the amendment makes in-school suspension permissive. This could result in a savings to various local and regional school districts associated with reduced staffing and space costs for in-school suspension.
