Explanation

The amendment adds for-profit institutions of higher education to the institutions exempt from the Office of Higher Education's (OHE) approval process for new or revised academic programs. This could result in an additional savings to the OHE. Currently, the OHE has multiple cross-trained employees who dedicate a portion of their work duties to program approval. Eliminating certain nonprofit independent higher education institutions and for-profit insitutions would reduce the potential state workload, but would not reduce the federal responsibilities associated with program approval. The reduction in the state workload is anticipated to be minimal.
