Explanation

The bill requires each school nurse or nurse practitioner to complete the school nurse orientation program offered by (1) the State Department of Education (SDE), (2) the Association of School Nurses of Connecticut, and (3) any regional education service center within one year of being hired, unless he or she previously completed the program. This could result in a cost to local and regional school districts or the Connecticut Technical High School System, which would be required to cover the cost of the class, which is estimated to be $160 per nurse. The impact to various local and regional school districts is anticipated to be minimal, as 90 nurses statewide took the training course in FY 15. The bill makes other procedural changes that are not anticipated to result in a fiscal impact.

The Out Years

The annualized ongoing fiscal impact identified above would continue into the future subject to the cost of the class and the number of nurses attending.
