SPONSORS OF BILL:

Education Committee

REASONS FOR BILL:

This bill sets a new deadline by which the education commissioner must develop and submit a comprehensive statewide plan for interdistrict magnet schools directly to the Education Committee.

RESPONSE FROM ADMINISTRATION/AGENCY:

None Submitted

NATURE AND SOURCES OF SUPPORT:

The CT Association of Public School Superintendents supports legislation that would result in the development of a state-wide inter-district magnet school plan. Over a number of years, many magnet schools have been established across Connecticut. The establishment of magnet schools absent a well thought out strategy for employing magnet schools, as one of the components for improving schooling in general cannot be defended.
