REASONS FOR BILL:

Increases the military rank needed to be the executive director (ED) from officer to “field grade or senior officer” in order to have the rank of the ED be reflective of the true functions of the office.

RESPONSE FROM ADMINISTRATION/AGENCY:

Catherine Smith, Comissioner, Department of Economic and Community Development: Ms. Smith testifies that the primary purpose of the Office of Military Affairs (OMA) is to enhance military and defense industry in Connecticut. He tells us that while the OMA has served well over the last several years, it is a good idea to update the legislation concerning the OMA in order to be proactive and to “better capture the reality of the tasks the office preforms. He adds that, Some of the provisions of the original legislation are no longer relevant.
