HB 5434

AN ACT REQUIRING A TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY-TECHNICAL COLLEGE COOPERATIVE.

SUMMARY:

This bill requires the regional community-technical college (CTC) system to collaborate and develop a cooperative agreement with the technical high school system by September 1, 2014. This agreement may (1) allow each CTC and its neighboring technical high school to share space, equipment, material, or instructors and (2) permit the high school students to earn college credit from the CTC. The bill requires the two systems to consider whether a memorandum of understanding between each CTC and neighboring technical high school is needed to facilitate the agreement.

Under the bill, the CTC system must annually report to the Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee, beginning January 1, 2015, on (1) the status of the cooperative agreement and (2) the relationship between each CTC and its neighboring technical high school.
