AN ACT CONCERNING THE SAFE USE OF ELECTRONIC DEFENSE WEAPONS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That the general statutes be amended to require police officers to undergo basic and review training in the use of electronic defense weapons, prohibit police officers using an electronic defense weapon in the performance of their duties unless they have completed such training, require law enforcement agencies that allow their officers to use electronic defense weapons to develop and maintain a policy on the use of such weapons and document the circumstances when such weapons are used, and authorize any person on whom an electronic defense weapon has been used to bring a civil action if the officer had not completed the required training or if the law enforcement agency had not developed and maintained a policy on the use of electronic defense weapons.

Statement of Purpose:

To ensure the safe use of electronic defense weapons by law enforcement agencies.
