Explanation

The amendment ends the Risk Reduction Earned Credit (RREC) program for all inmates sentenced after October 1, 2012. As the population of prisoners ineligible for the program rises, the daily population and associated costs to the Department of Correction will increase. The total value of the savings associated with RREC is $32.0 million.
