Explanation

This amendment is anticipated to result in a total fiscal impact to the Department of Correction of $3.7 million. This impact is comprised of a foregone savings of $455, 000 in the underlying bill, as well as a cost of $3.2 million for each future murder with special circumstance case. The amendment requires that inmates convicted of this offense be housed in a maximum security facility. The annual cost to incarcerate an inmate at Northern Correctional Institute is $78, 463.
