The amendment may result in a potential cost to the Department of Economic and Community Development by allowing the agency to determine whether paid sick leave imposes an “undue hardship” on a particular business. The cost would be dependent upon the number of grievances filed under the provision. If numerous grievances are filed, the agency may require additional staffing to process the requests.
