ASSAULTS AGAINST POLICE OFFICERS STATISTICS FOR SELECTED CONNECTICUT TOWNS | ||
| ||
By: Duke Chen, Legislative Analyst II |
You wanted to know the number of police officers employed by the State Police and the towns of Bloomfield, Bridgeport, East Hartford, New Haven, New London, Waterbury, and West Hartford who were assaulted between 2006 and 2008.
As Table 1 shows, on a yearly basis, more Connecticut State Police officers have been assaulted than those employed by any of the selected towns. Reasons for the differences in the number of assaults by police jurisdiction may be due to the size of the police force, the population size and location of the jurisdiction (i.e., densely populated urban areas v. scarcely populated rural areas), or possibly other variables.
Of the selected towns, Bridgeport and New Haven have the highest number of officers assaulted, while Bloomfield and West Hartford have the least.
