Explanation

The amendment requires the Department of Social Services (DSS) to make payments from the shelter services account funded by the marriage license surcharge. DSS use such funds to pay landlords for any losses incurred due to premature termination or interruption of rental agreements associated with tenants who are victims of family violence. The amendment also requires tenants to reimburse DSS for such arrearage paid to landlords.

The amendment makes additional changes to landlord/tenant law that have no fiscal impact.
