AN ACT AUTHORIZING THE HUNTING OF DEER BY PISTOL OR REVOLVER.

SUMMARY:

This bill requires the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) commissioner to issue permits allowing handgun hunting of deer on private land of at least 10 acres, between November 1 and December 31. The hunting is pursuant to the private land deer permit bag limit established by the commissioner. The permit fee is $ 5. The hunter must (1) own the land or (2) be a state resident and have the consent of the land owner. Hunters must use a cartridge of at least . 357 calibers.

Legislative History

On April 14, the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee reported this substitute bill, eliminating provisions (1) decreasing several sportsmen's fees, (2) capping camping and state park fees, (3) increasing certain motor vehicle violation fines, (4) establishing a Connecticut Migratory Bird Conservation account, and (5) affecting the DEP Bureau of Natural Resources and DEP internet communications and transactions. These provisions were incorporated in House Bill 5455, signed into law on April 14. The substitute bill also eliminates a provision creating a limited motor vehicle operator permit.
