Strike lines 22 to 27, inclusive, in their entirety and insert the following in lieu thereof:

"(b) Each local or regional board of education that maintains a public high school shall have at least two students serve on such board of education as nonvoting members. Such students shall be selected from among such high schools located under the jurisdiction of such board. The total number of students from each high school shall be determined by the local or regional board of education, in accordance with the provisions of this section, and the students shall be selected through a student election or in another manner prescribed by such board of education."

After the last section, add the following and renumber sections and internal references accordingly:

"Sec. 501. Section 10-66b of the general statutes is repealed and the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective July 1, 2009):

The operation and management of any regional educational service center shall be the responsibility of the board of such center to be composed of at least one member from each participating board of education, selected by such board of education. The board of the regional educational service center may designate from its membership an executive board which shall have such powers as the board of the regional educational service center may delegate and which are consistent with this part. The term of office of members of the board of the regional educational service center shall not exceed four years. Members of the board of the regional educational service center shall receive no compensation for services rendered as such, but may be reimbursed for necessary expenses in the course of their duties. The director of the regional educational service center shall serve as the executive agent of the board of the regional educational service center. Each board of a regional educational service center that maintains an interdistrict magnet high school shall have at least two students serve on such board as nonvoting members. Such students shall be selected from among students who attend an interdistrict magnet high school maintained by such regional educational service center. The total number of such students shall be determined by the board, in accordance with the provisions of this section, and the students shall be selected through a student election or in another manner prescribed by such board."
