After the last section, add the following and renumber sections and internal references accordingly:

"Sec. 501. (Effective from passage) (a) Notwithstanding the provisions of section 10-15 of the general statutes, for the school year ending June 30, 2009, any local or regional board of education shall not be subject to the requirement that public schools, including kindergarten, be maintained in each town for at least one hundred eighty days of actual school sessions during each year if such school district has had to cancel school sessions due to an outbreak of novel influenza A (H1N1) flu, provided such one hundred eighty days are not reduced by more than the number of days such school sessions have been cancelled because of such outbreak.

(b) Notwithstanding the provisions of section 10-16l of the general statutes, for the school year ending June 30, 2009, any local or regional board of education that, prior to January 1, 2009, scheduled a graduation date for students in grade twelve and has been forced to cancel school sessions due to an outbreak of novel influenza A (H1N1) flu may hold a graduation ceremony on the scheduled date, provided such high school continues to provide for at least as many days of actual school work as the school is required to provide subject to the provisions of subsection (a) of this section.

(c) The provisions of subdivision (1) of subsection (c) of section 10-266w of the general statutes shall not apply if any local or regional board of education reduces the number of school sessions in accordance with subsection (a) of this section. "
