Explanation

The amendment allows local and regional school districts to be exempt from the requirement of holding one hundred and eighty school session days during each year, if the school district has had to cancel school due to an outbreak of novel influenza A (H1N1) flu.

This could result in a potential minimal savings to local and regional school districts associated with energy and maintenance expenses, since they are required to be open fewer days during the year.

The amendment also ensures that there will not be a loss to local and regional school districts related to the state school breakfast program for those schools that are not open for one hundred and eighty days.

The amendment makes other changes, which are not anticipated to result in a fiscal impact.

The preceding Fiscal Impact statement is prepared for the benefit of the members of the General Assembly, solely for the purposes of information, summarization and explanation and does not represent the intent of the General Assembly or either chamber thereof for any purpose.
