AN ACT PROHIBITING THE USE OF SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS AS AN IDENTIFIER ON MEDICAL RECORDS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That chapter 368a of the general statutes be amended to require the Commissioner of Public Health to adopt regulations requiring that all licensed health care providers and facilities in the state eliminate the use of Social Security numbers as an identifier on medical records and that medical industry identity codes shall be used in lieu of Social Security numbers on such records.

Statement of Purpose:

To eliminate the use of Social Security numbers as an identifier on medical records.
