Strike section 1 in its entirety and renumber the remaining sections and internal references accordingly:

In line 26, after "bisphenol-A" insert ", provided a safe alternative is available, as determined by the Commissioner of Consumer Protection in any regulations adopted pursuant to section 501 of this act. "

In line 39, after "bisphenol-A" insert ", provided a safe alternative is available, as determined by the Commissioner of Consumer Protection in any regulations adopted pursuant to section 501 of this act. "

After the last section, add the following and renumber sections and internal references accordingly:

"Sec. 501. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2010) The Commissioner of Consumer Protection may, in consultation with the Commissioner of Public Health, adopt regulations, in accordance with the provisions of chapter 54 of the general statutes, to determine if there exist any safe alternative to using bisphenol-A in reusable food or beverage containers as defined in section 2 of this act and in containers, jars or cans containing infant formula and baby food, as such terms are defined in section 3 of this act. "
