CONNECTICUT LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENTS AND POPULATIONS SERVED

Following is information on Connecticut local health departments and the population served by each municipal and district health department in the state.

BACKGROUND

Currently, Connecticut has 80 local health departments serving the state's entire population. Fifty–two (52) of them are full-time departments, while the remaining 28 are part-time. The full-time departments include 32 individual municipal health departments and 20 district departments of health (multi-town health departments). Of the state's 2006 population of 3,510,787 (estimated), full-time departments (both municipal and district) serve about 93% of the state's population, while part-time departments serve 7% according to the Department of Public Health (DPH).
