RELEASES FROM PRISONS | ||
| ||
By: Christopher Reinhart, Senior Attorney |
You asked about the number of people released from prison broken down by their town of residence at the time of admission.
SUMMARY
The Department of Correction (DOC) provided us with information on sentenced inmates who were released from prison either at the end of their sentence or to some type of community supervision such as parole, transitional supervision, halfway house, or furlough. According to DOC, there were 13,663 inmates released in 2006 who reported a Connecticut town as their residence, 478 who reported an out-of-state town, and for 57 inmates a town was not recorded. In 2007, there were 13,650 inmates released who reported a Connecticut town, 487 reported an out-of-state town, and the town was not recorded for 50 inmates.
This data is based on the town of residence an inmate reported at the time of admission. Each inmate is only counted once by his or her most recent type of release, although it is possible that an inmate could have been released multiple times during a year. For example, during a year, an inmate could be released to parole and later be discharged at the end of his or her sentence. This data also excludes inmates who were only held before trial or sentencing during these years.
RELEASES BY CONNECTICUT TOWN
Table 1 lists the Connecticut towns reported as the residence of sentenced inmates who were released from DOC facilities either at the end of their sentence or to community supervision in 2006 and 2007. In each year, an inmate is only counted once. This list excludes inmates who were only held before trial or sentencing during these years.
