PROTECTION FOR WORKING PARENTS WHEN THEIR CHILD'S SCHOOL IS CANCELLED

By: Ryan F. O'Neil, Research Assistant

You asked if there is there a law protecting parents who work when their child's school is cancelled because of the weather. You also wanted to know if there has there been any recent legislation in this area.

According to a spokesperson for the Department of Labor, no law protects working parents who stay home with their children when weather forces a school cancellation.

There has been no legislation in this area since at least 1988.
