STATE-FUNDED SCHOOL ATHLETIC FIELDS OR LIGHTS | ||
| ||
By: Judith Lohman, Chief Analyst |
You asked for a list of school athletic fields or lights for athletic fields the state has funded in the past 10 years through the school construction or bond acts, including the municipality, the state funds amount, the legislator who represented the district at the time, and the year.
This report is based on a computer search of all public and special acts passed from 1997 through 2007 that have explicit funding authorizations for athletic fields or lights for athletic fields for public elementary or secondary schools. It does not include authorizations for municipal or college stadiums or stadium lighting. It also does not include athletic fields built or renovated as part of larger school projects unless they are explicitly mentioned in the authorization.
We found five specific state funding authorizations for public school athletic fields, all enacted since 2002. There were no authorizations explicitly for athletic field lights. Table 1 shows the requested information for each authorization. Because we did not attempt to determine the exact location of each of the schools and the boundaries of each legislative district, we list all legislators who represented each town at the time the authorization was enacted.
