After the last section, add the following and renumber sections and internal references accordingly:

"Sec. 501. (Effective July 1, 2007) The Department of Public Safety shall study the impact of the legalization of palliative marijuana use in the states of Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Vermont and Washington, and shall analyze: (1) The impact on the local and state police departments of those states of the enforcement of fraudulent claims associated with such legalization; and (2) the overall increase of arrests for the illegal use of marijuana in those states. On or before February 1, 2008, the department shall report its findings and recommendations to the joint standing committee of the General Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to public safety, in accordance with the provisions of section 11-4a of the general statutes. "
