Explanation

The amendment strikes Section 504, which establishes the appointment of special assignment probate judges. This will result in a savings associated with the cost of salaries for special assignment probate judges. Since the positions are new, and are appointed by the Supreme Court's Chief Justice, it is unknown how many additional positions and their associated savings will result.

Additionally, the amendment strikes Section 505 and states that local probate courts must be open a minimum of twenty hours per week, unless the court is located in a town facility that is not open twenty hours per week. This will result in a savings to certain probate courts not currently open twenty hours per week, which reside in a town facility meeting such conditions. Currently, there are 30 courts open less than 20 hours per week.

The amendment makes various other changes that are not anticipated to result in a fiscal impact.

The preceding Fiscal Impact statement is prepared for the benefit of the members of the General Assembly, solely for the purposes of information, summarization and explanation and does not represent the intent of the General Assembly or either chamber thereof for any purpose.
