Explanation

This bill requires the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) to appoint an arbitrator. The arbitrator would be compensated approximately $85,000 per year, the cost of which would be paid by the Lemon Law Fund. Revenues, on average, exceed expenditures by approximately $255,000 each fiscal year and are anticipated to cover arbitrator costs.

Approximately 175 applications for the Lemon Law are received by DCP each year.

Senate “A” revised the motor vehicle lemon law and permits automobile repairers and dealers to charge for certain inspections, which has no fiscal impact.

The Out Years

The annualized ongoing fiscal impact identified above would continue into the future subject to inflation.

The preceding Fiscal Impact statement is prepared for the benefit of the members of the General Assembly, solely for the purposes of information, summarization and explanation and does not represent the intent of the General Assembly or either chamber thereof for any purpose.
