REASONS FOR BILL:
This bill is designed in an attempt to establish pilot programs in Milford and Fairfield in order to permanently reverse Long Island Sound hypoxia as well as shoreline erosion.
RESPONSE FROM ADMINISTRATION/AGENCY:
NATURE AND SOURCES OF SUPPORT:
Speaker of the House James Amann, 118th Dist., and Rep. Tom Drew 132nd Dist. - Both strongly support this bill, as they feel that the Connecticut shoreline is the states most valuable natural and economic asset vital to tourism, job creation and property values. For these and other reasons this bill needs to be adopted as it will utilize funds to create a program that will protect the shoreline from beach erosion. They also request substitute language be added to this bill.
Beach Recovery-Gregory Sarno- Strongly supports this bill, as it is needed not only to bring the beaches of CT back to life, but also to revitalize the dunes, bluffs, vegetation-which serve as the natural protectors of our shoreline- as well as the fish, shellfish, and water table. The technology of the system, which this pilot program provides, will protect, preserve, and revitalize CT's shoreline with no adverse effects.
