AN ACT CONCERNING CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLANNING.
LCO No.: 8012
File Copy No.: 799
House Calendar No.: 423
OFA Fiscal Note
The amendment eliminates the six year time limit for any victim or victim’s family to apply for compensation subsequent to the victim’s personal injury or death. Any resulting cost to the criminal injuries compensation fund, which is supported primarily by surcharges on certain crimes and motor vehicle violations, is anticipated to be minimal as few claims are expected under the amendment. The median amount of compensation award per victim is about $1, 800.
