AN ACT CONCERNING PRISON OVERCROWDING.

AMENDMENT

LCO No.: 4774

File Copy No.: 528

House Calendar No.: 366

OFA Fiscal Note

MINIMAL COST

The Board of Pardons, which consists of five members, currently conducts hearings twice each year. The members of the board are paid a per diem fee for attendance at each session.1 The total annual budget for the agency is about $35, 000. To the extent that passage of the amendment results in the need for additional sessions, there would similarly be a need for additional minimal resources.

The preceding Fiscal Impact statement is prepared for the benefit of the members of the General Assembly, solely for the purposes of information, summarization and explanation and does not represent the intent of the General Assembly or either House thereof for any purpose.

1 Last year, the Board considered 250 non-inmate applications. About half of the total received hearings and about half of the total were granted pardons. Of the 225 inmate applications, none were granted pardons.
