PUBLIC ACT NO. 98-136
AN ACT CONCERNING CONNECTICUT LOTTERY CORPORATION
STAFF KILLED IN THE LINE OF EMPLOYMENT.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of
Representatives in General Assembly convened:
Section 1. (a) The board of directors of the
Connecticut Lottery Corporation, established
pursuant to section 12-802 of the general
statutes, may grant, for the benefit of the spouse
or children of any current or former corporation
staff member who was killed as a result of
physical injury sustained from the violent act of
another person in the corporation's workplace,
such rights as the board deems equitable under the
circumstances to postsecondary education
scholarships for such children and health benefits
for such spouse or children.
(b) The corporation may establish or
contribute to a Connecticut Higher Education
Trust, as defined in section 1 of public act
97-224, to carry out the purpose of providing
postsecondary education scholarships for any such
children.
(c) Nothing in this section shall be
construed to limit the scope of authority granted
to the corporation under chapter 229a of the
general statutes.
Sec. 2. (NEW) For the fiscal year ending June
30, 1999, and each fiscal year thereafter, the
Commissioner of Administrative Services, in
consultation with the Commissioner of Mental
Health and Addiction Services and the Commissioner
of Public Safety, shall, within the limits of
available appropriations, provide an appropriate
program of workplace stress and violence
awareness, prevention and preparedness for state
employees.
Sec. 3. This act shall take effect from its
passage.
