SPECIAL ACT NO. 97-17
AN ACT PROVIDING PENSION BENEFITS FOR CHILDREN OF
CERTAIN STATE EMPLOYEES.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of
Representatives in General Assembly convened:
Notwithstanding any other provision of chapter
66 of the general statutes to the contrary, any
State Employees Retirement System Tier I member
who was employed by a constituent unit of higher
education, who applied for a nonservice connected
disability retirement under the provisions of
section 5-169 of the general statutes to become
effective January 1, 1995, naming his spouse as
his one hundred per cent contingent annuitant
pursuant to section 5-165 of the general statutes,
and who became deceased on December 9, 1994, and
whose surviving spouse was issued an estimated one
hundred per cent annuitant benefit payment on
January 31, 1995, in accordance with subsection
(c) of section 5-165a of the general statutes, and
who herself died on February 12, 1995, shall have
his original one hundred per cent contingent
annuitant option election nullified and
substituted in its place a twenty-year period
certain option naming his children as of the
effective date of his retirement, entitling them
to annuitant payments in accordance with the
twenty year certain election effective January 1,
1995.
