              PUBLIC ACT NO. 97-194


AN   ACT   CONCERNING   A  WAIVER  OF  FOOD  STAMP
PARTICIPATION RESTRICTION.


    Be  it  enacted  by  the  Senate  and House of
Representatives in General Assembly convened:
    Section 1. (NEW)  The  Commissioner  of Social
Services shall seek  a  waiver from federal law to
allow persons who live in an area in which (1) the
unemployment rate is  greater than ten per cent or
(2) there is  an  insufficient  number  of jobs to
provide such persons with employment, to be exempt
from the three  month  participation  limit of the
food stamp program  implemented  pursuant  to  the
Food Stamp Act of 1977.
    Sec. 2. This  act  shall  take effect from its
passage.
