Meeting Summary:  January 16, 2003

Chair: Paula Armbruster

Subcommittee Focus 2003

The participants discussed focus areas for 2003 and agreed to the following:

1)      Lead poisoning:  Look at environmental approaches to lead & asthma resources:

·        Mikki Meadows – YNHH Primary Care Clinic linkage to dead and asthma clinics

·        DPH combined asthma/lead statewide coalition

·        DPH/DSS lead match for screens (Mary Lou Fleissner) and Ana Chambers, DPH lead coordinator.

·        Dr. Kamens show the Greater Bridgeport Medical Society English/Spanish video.

2)      Dental Care in HUSKY:  request to have information on statewide dental service access presentations by DPH, CT health Foundation grant, CHC data and HUSKY MCO utilization data.  The subcommittee does not want to duplicate the work of the Public Health Subcommittee; however community providers are concerned about the lack of access to pediatric dental care.

3)      ADHD:  the diagnosis and pharmacological intervention are increasing in frequency, yet use of diagnostic guidelines and evidence-based treatment may not be used at the primary care level.

4)      HUSKY adult health that involves preventive services and disease prevalence and management.

5)      Access to subspecialty care in HUSKY is becoming more difficult for PC referrals as specialty providers are withdrawing from participating in “Medicaid”.

6)      Continue to follow up on the adolescent work group and pediatric obesity nutritional service work group activities, recommendations and implementation of these.

Updates

Qualidigm contract with DSS has not been renewed as the DSS looks to putting out an RFP in the second quarter.  Qualidigm projects include the HUSKY A & B Operations audit and follow up MCO corrections, data validation, HUSKY B data and PLUS program reports and the Psychotropic drug study.

Children’s Health Council: continued funding is uncertain: they currently have 8 Maximus staff and 4 CHC staff.  They plan to work on the 2001 DPH/DSS birth data match.

DPH & DSS   continue to work toward completing the Memorandum of Understanding related to sharing HUSKY/DPH data, per 2002 legislation.

Next meeting is scheduled for Thursday February 27, 10:30 AM at the LOB. The agenda will include the Qualidigm data validation study, Preferred One review of their data improvement initiatives and will request DPH to present lead data.
