Re: Subcommittee Deadline
The Chairs and Ranking Members of the Blue Ribbon Commission have met and have set January 6 as the deadline to receive subcommittee reports. There will be no meeting of the full Blue Ribbon Commission between December 16 and the subcommittee reporting deadline. This will give your 3 full weeks to finish your work. Of course, this 3 weeks includes the Christmas and New Year's (new millennium?) holidays, but what could be more important than the Blue Ribbon Commission?
We strongly suggest that the reports be in the format of recommendations followed by any findings or back up materials. While it might seem logical to put findings first, which then inform the recommendations, our observation of the Blue Ribbon Commission as a whole suggests that it may be possible to reach agreement on recommendations even in areas where there is great disagreement about the facts and different philosophical routes to those recommendations.
I would be pleased to speak with you about this at any time. While I have an "open door" policy for Blue Ribbon Commission members, for subcommittee chairs I even have a traveling door policy, so if you would like me to come to your office to meet. Thanks again for all your hard work.
