He
was the son of Pierpont Edwards who had been instrumental in forming
the Democratic Party in Connecticut. Edwards married Lydia Miller
in 1801 and had seven children. He studied law in Litchfield and
became a lawyer in New Haven soon thereafter.
Henry
Edwards was first elected to the Connecticut House of Representatives
in 1818.
