4/4/2008 – A joint swearing-in and promotion ceremony was held at the State Capitol in the Legislative Office Building on Friday.  During the largest ceremony of its kind in the department’s history Chief Michael J. Fallon promoted four senior members of the department to lieutenant, sergeant and corporal and swore in a lieutenant and two new officers. Chief Fallon commented, “This is a great day for the department. These supervisors and officers are truly Connecticut’s Finest…I am confident that they will serve the General Assembly and citizens of the state with pride and distinction.”  Promoted were Lieutenant Walter Lee, Sergeant Dennis O’Connell, Sergeant Robert Bates and Corporal Armando Segovia. Sworn-in were P.O.S.T.C. certified officers: Lieutenant Stephen Hajdasz, Officer Curtis Sinatro and Officer Erica O’Connor.  Please click for picture.

3/15/2008 – The State Capitol Police Department marches in the 37th Annual Greater Hartford St. Patrick’s Day parade in Hartford in front of record crowds.

2/29/2008 – A new lieutenant is appointed to the State Capitol Police Department.  Stephen Hajdasz, a twenty year veteran and former Captain with the Hartford Police Department joined the ranks of the SCPD and as part of a reorganization plan launched in January 2008  will head the newly created Operations Support Division.  Chief Michael J. Fallon commented, “Lieutenant Hajdasz is tops in his field and we are fortunate to have him on the team. He brings a wealth of proven police experience in both operations and support; as well as knowledge of the City and its communities, to the department.” Lieutenant Hajdasz will oversee training, accreditation, technology, fiscal accountability and recruitment for the department.    Please click for picture.

2/8/2008 - Sergeant Walter Lee, a nine year veteran of the department  was promoted to lieutenant on Friday, February 8th. Chief Michael J. Fallon commented, "Lieutenant Lee is one of the State's Finest...this is a great day for the department." Lieutenant Lee will head the Operations Division under a reorganization plan launched by Chief Fallon in January 2008.

11/4/07 - On Sunday, November 4, 2007, the State Capitol Police Department’s Honor Guard marched for the first time in the annual Veterans Day Parade.  Please click for pictures.

10/5/07 - Three new officers joined the ranks of the State Capitol Police Department on Friday and were officially sworn in. Chief Michael J. Fallon welcomed the officers and praised them for making the decision to join a profession that can make a difference in the lives of those whom they protect and serve. These are the first of several new officers expected to join the ranks of the SCPD as the department faces significant attrition over the new few years. Click here for picture.

10/4/07 – The State Capitol Police Department’s honor guard to march in the Veteran’s Day Parade in Hartford, Connecticut on Sunday, November 4, 2007. Several members of the honor guard are either veterans or have served in the military. Chief Michael J. Fallon commented,  “This is a wonderful event and a proper way to recognize the service and sacrifices of our veterans and military personnel. It is an honor for the department and I am proud that the State Capitol Police will be marching in the parade for the first time.”

10/3/07 – The State Capitol Police Department participated in an “International Walk to School Day” event at the Noah Webster School in Hartford, Connecticut on Wednesday, October 3rd. As part of Safe Kids Connecticut -Officers Robert Holmgren and Kevin Long talked with children about “street smarts safety” and being alert on their way to and from school. 9/11/07 – The State Capitol Police Department will partner with the American Red Cross to help motivate Americans to prepare for disasters and other life threatening emergencies before they strike. The American Red Cross has created an online tutorial called "Be Red Cross Ready. " The tutorial encourages individuals, families, and local communities to become “Red Cross Ready” with three easy steps: 1) Get a kit. 2) Make a plan. 3) Be informed. The SCPD will participate in the campaign by getting the word out to people, being a distribution point for “Red Cross Ready” literature, speaking to groups and providing “Red Cross” links for the legislative community on the their  website.   www.charteroak.redcross.org  

8/1/07 – The results of the State Capitol Police Department’s -2007 Citizen Survey- are available for public review. Chief Michael J. Fallon commented, “ I am very proud of my officers, security technicians, and administrative staff…the results of the survey were excellent.”  Chief Fallon further commented that despite the excellent review there is always room for improvement and his department will continue to strive for excellence in the delivery of police services. 7/19/07 – Thursday, July 19, 2007, was Read-A-Loud Day in the City of Hartford. The State Capitol Police Department participated in the event at the Capitol Child Development Center located on Broad Street. Chief Michael J. Fallon read the book “Caps for Sale” to a wonderful group of children and after the reading presented each with a copy of the book and police stickers.    Click here for photo.

7/15/07 - The Citizen Survey officially ended on July 15, 2007.  Initial reviews of the survey show that over 300 people participated.  Survey results will be posted soon.  Thank you to all that participated.

5/3/07 - The State Capitol Police Department participated in the SafeKids event at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center on Thursday, May 3, 2007.   SCPD Officers Kevin Long and Mark Baldwin instruct the children on bicycle safety and the importance of wearing helmets when they ride their bikes.   Click here for photo.
