Dear Friends:
As life grows increasingly complex in our
state, our nation, and the world, it is more
important than ever to invest in our
children’s healthy growth and development to
assure a just and productive society.
Today’s
parents and policy makers are joined by
economists, neuroscientists, developmental
psychologists, and educators who clearly
demonstrate the long term societal and
economic benefits that accrue when
preventive investments are made in children
from birth, and continue proactively through
adolescence.
"The
Playbook for Prevention: The Winning Game
Plan for Kids and Connecticut" provides a
range of strategies that are part of a
comprehensive approach to achieving the
lifetime well being of our children and
grandchildren. Its success depends on an
energetic, committed team of parents,
educators, health care providers, civic and
business leaders, social services, and local
and state policy makers working together to
make this happen!
Now is the
time to do just that! Our children do not
stop developing while we deliberate!
This initiative was developed
by a public/private, state/national
partnership of
the Connecticut
Commission on Children,
Connecticut Public Broadcasting,
the Committee for Economic Development,
the National League of Cities' Institute for
Youth Education and Families, and
the Frameworks Institute.
Many thanks to our dedicated spokesman,
Coach Jim Calhoun,
Decker Advertising, and
Makiaris Media Services.
Our
gratitude to our funders for their support:
the
Connecticut Health Foundation,
the Universal Health Care Foundation,
the Children’s Fund of Connecticut,
the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving,
the NewAlliance Bank,
the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Paul
Newman,
the State of Connecticut, and those who
provided countless in-kind and pro bono
services.
With high
hopes!
Sincerely,

Laura Lee
