Governor Rell declares
National Parent Leadership Month

"By Her Excellency M. Jodi Rell, Governor, and Official Statement:

"WHEREAS, meaningful Parent Leadership is evident when parents and other caretaker relatives gain the knowledge and skills necessary to assume leadership roles and provide a "parent voice" that helps shape programs, policies and communities;

"WHEREAS, the power of Parent Leadership has made and will continue to make a positive impact on the health, safety and learning of children across Connecticut;

"WHEREAS, the state of Connecticut has wisely invested in a statewide collaborative effort with private and public partners to develop an integrated Parent Leadership infrastructure;

"WHEREAS, Connecticut is recognized as the first state in the nation to intentionally create a system of Parent Leadership opportunities for parents to actively exercise their civic and parental responsibilities;

"WHEREAS, the month of February is designated as National Parent Leadership Month to recognize, honor and celebrate parent leaders for the vital role they play in their homes and communities and in local, state, national, and international arenas;

"NOW, THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED that I, M. JODI RELL, Governor of the State of Connecticut, do hereby declare February 2009 as Parent Leadership Month in Connecticut.
