~ CT is the 7th oldest state in the nation, for median age. It is 10th for people aged 85+.

~ CT is home to one million "Baby Boomers" - people born between 1946-1964 - or roughly one third of its population.

~ From 2006 to 2030, CT's older adult population is expected to increase by 64%.

~ CT spends over $2 billion (13% of the state budget) annually on long-term care services and supports through Medicaid. 65% is spent on institutional care, 35% of community-based care.

Livable Communities for All Ages 

Approximately 150 people from all corners of Connecticut, including community leaders, legislators, providers and the public attended the CoA's "Livable Communities for All Ages" forum on Jan. 14th in the LOB.

Thanks to everyone who attended and to the terrific speakers and panelists who participated!  We are very pleased to join new partners, policymakers and providers to spark the conversation and action on this important issue.  Please see here for materials from the forum, including presentations, best practices and more!  You can watch the CT-N coverage here.

   
 

CoA submitted the Aging in Place Task Force Final Report (SA 12-6) to CGA's Aging Committee on December 28th.

CoA Executive Director, Julie Evans Starr served as a member of the Task Force and Deb Migneault served as its administrative staff. CoA looks forward to working with the Aging Committee this session to move some of the recommendations of the task force forward into law. The report is available here.
