Talent Bank

As part of its mandate and in response to the challenge to increase the participation of African-Americans on state boards and commissions, the African-American Affairs Commission (AAAC) maintains a talent bank of applications from African-Americans who are interested in appointment to state boards, councils, commissions, or task forces.

The AAAC serves as a resource by forwarding these applications to appropriate appointing authorities. Generally, positions on state boards and commissions are unpaid, and are appointed by the Governor, President Pro Tempore of the Senate, Speaker of the House, or other state officials in accordance with state law.

In its 2001 report Diversity of Appointees on Connecticut State Boards and Commissions, the Connecticut Secretary of State’s Office revealed of the 1,986 appointed members of the 204 state boards and commissions, 88.6% were White, 7.1% Black, 2.9% Hispanic and 1.4% were classified as “Other”.

Currently, Connecticut’s African-American population is 9.1 percent of the state’s general population (3,725,888). The AAAC seeks to increase its talent bank members and welcomes the applications of Connecticut residents who are of African descent.

Submission of AAAC Talent Bank applications and accompanying resumes may be made by U.S. mail, facsimile, or on-line via this website.
